I am Miss Steptoe and I teach the youngest children in our school. The children in Acorn class learn through play based activities which build on their experiences and interests in order to scaffold their learning.

The classroom environment is extremely important in this learning process. The children have a large classroom with different interest areas for the children to explore. This includes a role-play area (which is changed regularly), writing area, reading area, creative areas for painting, sticking, designing and messy play as well as four computers and interactive whiteboard. All these areas are available daily with a wide range of resources. Furthermore the children have continuous access to a large outdoor classroom which has similar areas as those inside. In addition to these areas, the outdoor classroom has a large sandpit (which is the main attraction!!) with an attached climbing frame and tubes leading to the sandpit, a theatre, ride on toys as well as a gardening area which the children take great pride in maintaining.
