The Year 6 library monitors work with every class to issue books and log the returned books onto the electronic system - very efficiently!
Story telling afternoon.
Combining story telling afternoon and World Book Day, the author Haydn Middleton visited KS2 classes to talk to them about writing. This was a particularly special occasion as he is grandad to Tilly, Reuben and Reggie!

We have long term plans for each Key Stage - just click on the relevant tab to find out more about the topics/genres being covered in literacy over the course of the academic year. 2017-18 is Year B.
We also use a range of reading schemes to promote reading and instil a love of books. We use Oxford Reading Tree, Big Cat (Collins) and Storyworlds as well as the Wordsmith Scheme. We also teach phonics through using the Bug Club phonics scheme (available through Pearsons) and ‘Letters and sounds’. We love celebrating our reading and writing through our corridor Writer of the Week display, competitions for stories and poetry and our annual Writing Prize assembly.
12.1.17. Parent forum on reading and phonics for FS and KS1 parents
It was great to see a good turnout of parents to this evening event to find out how we teach the children to read and how to best support them at home. This support makes all the difference - thank you!
21.2.18. World Book Day
We have a reputation for celebrating World Book day in style and this year was no different. There was a fabulous variety of book characters in our assembly parade and some very colourful costumes. Book Club members read to the youngest children, the library served refreshments and hosted visitors and a book fair was open for business.
Willow Class celebrate Roald Dahl's 100th
birthday with a live link up to a London theatre. We saw a live performance of Matilda, drew along with Quentin Blake and took part in a quiz. Great fun and more to come on 21st October when we celebrate some more in school
