Physical Education

At Middle Barton School, our pupils are provided with a range of both curricular and extra-curricular sport activities. We attend all of our partnership sports festivals and tournaments and we will update you with how we get on at the events on this page! We currently have two sports awards under our belt at Middle Barton School: The Silver School Games Kitemark and the Association for PE award, recognising high quality PE.

Please find our long-term plan for PE attached here - please note that this is a draft and can change over the year. We have recently invested in a new PE Scheme of Work and will be adapting our long-term plan over the coming weeks.
At Middle Barton School all of the children get 2 hours of Physical Education per week within the curriculum, in addition to a range of after-school clubs (including gymnastics, dance, multi-sports, football and ball skills). Our Middle Barton Marathon Challenge has been a huge success this year. Here are the final results.
Middle Barton School are using their PE & Sports Premium Funding in a number of ways. This year we have Rachel Sellars, a qualified PE teacher, working alongside all members of staff throughout the year to develop confidence and ability to deliver active, fun and engaging PE sessions. We also have a PE Teaching Assistant (Mrs Henderson), who has a great knowledge of sport and PE, working with all teachers during PE sessions. Here is a document evidencing the impact of the PE and Sport Premium funding for the year 2017-18.

During the week beginning 3rd July 2017, we held a Health and Fitness week at Middle Barton School. The week started off with a bang, with a visit from Team Superschools and International Judoka, Megan Fletcher. The whole school took part in a sponsored fitness circuit, had a photo taken with Megan and enjoyed an assembly led by her. The assembly involved some brilliant demonstrations, including Miss Trafford being thrown by Abigail in Year 5 and Nathan in Year 4. The rest of the week involved lots of PE, tournaments, fruit kebabs and morning miles!
School Sports Crew/House Captains - 2017-18
This year's sports crew/house captains are: Harry L, Bella, Ellie, Sophie, Rosa, Alana and Harry H. Over the year, they will be responsible for the organisation and running of inter-house tournaments and they are overseeing a range of other initiatives in school, including the Daily Mile. They will meet regularly throughout the year, with Mrs Henderson or Miss Trafford.
Middle Barton School are lucky to be in the Chipping Norton School's Partnership. The schools in the partnership work closely together on a whole range of events including sports tournaments and festivals, held at Chipping Norton School and run by a great team of junior leaders and staff.
